With compliance deadlines only a few months away, Merit HR has partnered with Prevent Harassment LLC to simplify the process and offer high-quality on demand e-learning. These online trainings accommodate employees who are unable to attend in-person training. As a client of Merit HR, you are also welcomed to set up an annual harassment prevention program with our assistance.
California employers are required to provide one hour of harassment and bullying prevention training to ALL employees and two hours for Managers, Supervisors, and Team Leaders by January 1, 2021. Other states, such as Illinois, New York and Connecticut also have mandated requirements with upcoming deadlines.
The training courses consist of videos, case scenarios, activities, certification quizzes, and the opportunity to ask questions. Certificates of completion are provided to successful participants, and status reports are provided to clients, monthly.
The courses meet the requirements of these laws:
• California: AB 1825, AB 2053, SB 396 and SB 1343
• New York: Human Rights Law
• Illinois: Public Act 101-0221
• National: EEOC recommendations for training all staff from CEO to front line employees
Presenters
Content is developed and presented by HR professionals, behavioral health specialists, and attorneys to ensure practical insight into this important topic. Marcia Hakanson, MBA, SPHR is the lead trainer and has trained thousands of employees in over 45 states. She has been a primary trainer with Merit HR for 10 years.

Process
To participate, you must watch a video training. Once the video is completed, you will be required to take a short quiz. You must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly in order to pass, at which point, you will receive a certificate of completion to provide to your employer.
Session A (All Employees):
The first hour training session covers the legal and behavioral aspects of this topic, including:
Federal and state laws providing protection against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
Protections based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression
Definitions and examples of conduct that constitutes harassment and abusive conduct/bullying
Behavioral standards for respectful workplace relationships
Spanish language version available
Session B (Management):
The second hour is for managers, supervisors, and employees in lead positions covering the practical aspects of harassment, including:
Tips for avoiding discrimination in hiring, promotion, and other employment decisions
How to respond to a complaint of harassment
The impact of abusive conduct to lower employee productivity, morale, and engagement
Examples of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
How to ensure fairness and consistency in management decisions
