US and Global Mandates for Harassment Prevention

Compliance can be confusing and time-consuming. We have you covered with a complete harassment prevention and response program: training, reporting, and resources for all 50 states.

The EEOC strongly encourages harassment prevention training for ALL employees. We also have special versions for California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Washington. The National version covers all other states, and International covers all global locations. The Prevent Harassment platform ensures that you are covered across the map.

Here's a summary of requirements -- are you in compliance?

  1. IL and NY mandate annual harassment prevention training with very specific content. CA and several other states require training every other year, or at other intervals.  New Hires should be trained as they are hired to ensure they know the standards and how to report harassment.

  2. Employers must distribute the corresponding state poster and the EEOC poster in every work location (office, floor, for remote workers). Some states mandate that the training is in accessible formats for disabilities or languages.

  3. Your policy must include specific verbiage about discrimination and harassment and provide contact information to employees for reporting a complaint

  4. You must have solid complaint handling procedures.

  5. Chicago employers have even higher standards, including managerial training and Active Bystander Intervention training.

  6. Many states have other requirements, so you will need to be aware of those mandates.

  7. Several global locations mandate training content as well. For example, India’s POSH law mandates training, policies, and a complaint handling procedure. Other locations may strongly encourage the training.

To make things simple across the board, employees take Session A (based on their location) and anyone in a supervisory, management or leadership role takes Session B.   We have employee sessions in English and Spanish. Anyone in Chicago also takes the mandatory Active Bystander Intervention Training.
