Multi-State or Global Harassment Prevention Program

Rolling out a consistent harassment prevention training program in multiple states can be tricky. Remote workers make scheduling difficult across time zones to achieve 100% compliance. More than half of the states have unique requirements in terms of content, length, frequency, and other elements. Even if your state does not have a specific mandate, on the national level, the EEOC strongly encourages ALL employers to conduct training. Title VII provisions extend to employees of US operations, so getting consistency across the globe is important.

Here are some unique mandates: California requires distributing harassment policies in a language spoken by 10% of the workforce and requires discussion of bullying or abusive conduct; Connecticut requires two hours every three years, whereas New York and Illinois require training every year; DC requires training for tipped employees; Michigan and Washington require training for specific industries, and Maine mandates a poster written in 6th-grade literacy standards.
